Vietnam Passes Lead, ZincOre Mining Plan by 2020
Vietnam Prime Minister has approved a blueprint for exploring, mining, processing and using lead and zinc ores in the country by 2020, aiming to maintain the country’s sustainable development.
Under the plan, Vietnam will inject VND460 billion (US$28.75 million) in lead and zinc mining projects between now and 2020, including a new modern zinc refinery with a capacity of 15,000-20,000 tons per year.
In the 2006-15 period, VND64 billion (US$4 million) are set to be allocated for exploring lead and zinc mines.
It is expected that demand for lead in the 2005-20 period is 17,000-45,000 tons, and demand for zinc is about 50,000-165,000 tons.
The Prime Minister, in a decision to approve the plan, also clearly specified areas for lead and zinc ore exploration and mining, most of them are located in northern provinces.
