Vietnam plans to raise the national reserve to 1.5-2 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2010 from the current 1 per cent, said director of the National Reserve Department, Luong Huu Kiem.

“The department would revise policies on the national reserve in order to realize the target,” emphasized Khiem at a ceremony marking the department's 50th anniversary held in Hanoi on August 7.

In addition, the department would draw up management regulations, conforming to the Ordinance on National Reserve, and build a strategy throughout 2020.

On this occasion, Vice President Truong My Hoa awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order to the Department of National Reserve.

It was reported that in a recent National Assembly meeting, lawmakers agreed to spend VND11 trillion (US$691.8 million) on the national reserve, or 3.8 per cent of total State expenditure this year.
