Thai Son Co., set up in 1996 from the merger of Tropical Scientific & Technical Application Co. and Dai Nam Trading and Tourism Co., has experienced a very difficult time. From a backward facility and weak workforce mainly engaged in import-export and trading services with an annual revenue of VND40-50 million (US$2,500-3,125), the company tried its best to become a strong company operating in various business fields. Currently, Thai Son Co. specialises in technological application and transfer, import-export, construction, real estate trading, information technology, mechanics, refrigerating electricity, vocational training and recruitment.
Thai Son is strong at all its business fields. In science and technology, the firm has constructed wastewater treatment stations and water supply systems for many military-run hospitals, Vinamilk and Noi Bai International Airport among others. It also takes part in scientific and technological research activities for national defence and economic purposes like waste control and management model for small hospitals, the application of microbiological products to the improvement of shrimp rearing waters and the application of IT to financial management for enterprises.
In construction and real estate trading, Thai Son is carrying out many big projects like Phuoc Kieng Residential Area in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, a 9-ha residential area in Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province and the Southern Military Trade Promotion and Exhibition Centre.
In recent years, Thai Son invested VND10 billion ($625,000) in vocational training and job brokerage for military returnees and youth. It also cooperates with India’s NIIT to train high tech engineers.
In trading, apart from domestic market expansion, the company has exported various products like materials, equipment, steel, iron, seafood, household appliances, machines, garments, textiles, farm produces to Russian and SNG markets. It has also entered joint ventures to produce NPK fertilisers, bricks and tiles and develop industrial zones.
With the aforementioned achievements, Thai Son has been awarded various notable recommendations such as the Labour Order, Diplomas of Merits from the Prime Minster and the Ministry of National Defence and Ho Chi Minh City, and gold medals at domestic trade fairs. For the past 10 years, Thai Son has grown into a strong company with a legal capital of VND100 billion (US$6.25 million), taking part in nine joint ventures and running 18 subsidiary units. Thai Son now employs 500 staff and enjoys an average annual growth of 14.6 per cent. Typically, Thai Son is an active donor to social activities. The company voluntarily supports finances to five Vietnamese heroic mothers in Quang Ngai and Ho Chi Minh City and built 15 charity houses, a school and a cultural house.
Mr. Dung Danh Tham, Director of Thai Son, said: “Today’s achievements are fruits of the unanimity of the leadership committee and staff and of the common ambition of overcoming difficulties and fulfilling all assigned tasks with the highest responsibilities. However, the company is also aware of future difficulties, especially when Vietnam joins the WTO. Thai Son has to add more efforts in its activities and especially successfully apply the ISO9001:2000 quality management system.”
