Three Vietnamese retailers from southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City have been listed in the 2006 Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 published in Retail Asia - a regional trade magazine.

At the awarding ceremony held at Singapore’s Inter Continental Hotel on October 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Commercial Cooperative Union (Saigon Co.op) received the gold award, the third of its type to date.

Meanwhile the Saigon Jewelry Holding Company (SJC) and the Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint-stock Company (PNJ) got the silver and the bronze, respectively.

Addressing at the event, the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore affirmed that the honor meant high appreciation of the region on the retail market development of Vietnam.

The award conducted by Euromonitor International covers seven retail formats – convenience stores, department stores, health & beauty specialists, hypermarkets, specialty outlets, supermarkets, and other retailers from 14 economies – Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

According to the 2006 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI), an annual study conducted by AT Kearney of retail investment attractiveness among 30 emerging markets, Vietnam has arisen as the third most attractive retail market in the world.
