Vietnamese Woodworks Gaining New High in US, Japan
With an annual growth of 40 per cent as the past few years, the Vietnamese woodwork sector will surpass its Chinese rival to gain the first position in exporting wooden furniture to the US late this decade, mostly thanks to the US’s appreciation to Vietnamese workers’ skill, according to international experts.
Meanwhile, the US left EU and Japan behind to win the first position in importing woodworks from Vietnam with total import spending jumping to US$467 million in the first three quarters of 2006, up 30.1 per cent on-year and accounting for 38.5 per cent of Vietnam’s total woodwork export turnover in the period.
The experts also highlight Vietnam’s third position in exporting woodwork to Japan’s market following China and Thailand. And in wood chips, Vietnam gains first in South East Asian exports to the Japanese with shipment volume reaching 340,000 tons so far this year.
The Vietnam Woodwork and Forest Products Association forecast that the country’s total revenue from woodwork exports may reach US$2.2 billion this year, an increase of 38.4 per cent against 2005.
The association said in the first 11 months of this year, Vietnam’s export revenue from woodwork is nearly US$1.9 billion. The country’s woodworks have been warmly welcome by consumers in 120 countries and territories worldwide. They, especially, have set a firm foothold in three major markets comprising the US, EU and Japan.
