Australian PM Opens BlueScope Steel Plant
Australian Prime Minister John Howard has cut the ribbon to inaugurate the US$101-million flat steel metallic coating and painting factory of BlueScope Steel Vietnam at the Phu My Industrial Zone No. 1 in southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
Addressing at the ceremony, the Prime Minister said: “I am pleased to officially open BlueScope Steel's Phu My plant. It is indicative of the increasing economic linkages and complementarily between Australia and Vietnam, which has seen our two-way trade increase significantly to AUD$5 billion in 2005-2006. I commend BlueScope Steel for its vision in establishing its plant at Phu My, which will augment Australia's economic relations with Vietnam."
At full capacity, the plant will be capable of supplying Vietnamese customers with 125,000 tonnes of metallic coated and 50,000 tonnes of pre-painted flat steel products.
