Vissan Co. - Hygiene and Food Safety Is Competitive Advantage

 

Consumers are paying increasing attention to food safety and hygiene and are very selective in purchasing fresh food. In the past many years, the company has built and developed a fresh meat and frozen meat shop chain in residential zones of Ho Chi Minh City. This is a competitive advantage of Vissan.

 

At the same time, Vissan has ceaselessly improved its slaughtering processes, strictly obeying food safety and hygiene regulations, and increasing productivity to meet the increasing demand of the market. Vissan’s main products are fresh meat, frozen and processed food, hot dogs, canned food and Chinese sausages, all meeting ISO and HACCP international standards. With traditional processing secrets, Vissan products always contain the highest quality, satisfy the hygiene and food safety regulations and suit the tastes of Vietnamese consumers. Therefore, Vissan products have become familiar with many families. To boost sales, the company has opened more stores and sales agents in central and northern markets. In addition, the company has built up a complete distribution system to the retail outlets at markets, supermarkets, stores and agents nationwide. In addition, Vissan has also introduced advertisement programmes and a sales promotion programmes to popularise its products.

 

The quality input is one of the decisive factors for quality and food safety. Apart from the strict quarantine check, the company takes initiative in creating stable quality inputs by providing good varieties, feeds and techniques to farmers. As for beef, Vissan has built many fattening farms for both imported and domestic cows. Not only being successful in the domestic market, Vissan has also exported its processed seafood to Russia, South Korea, Japan, the US and Canada.

 

According to Mr. Bui Duy Duc, Director of Vissan Limited Company, Vissan’s meat sales rose 30-40 per cent in recent times. Each day, Vissan supplies 130 tonnes of hygienic pork, or 2,500 pigs. At present, Vissan has plans to buy new equipment to raise production capacity and expand its retail outlet system. In the coming months, Vissan will open series of stores with 15 types of products on shelves. Vissan reported total revenues if VND1,030 billion (US$63 million) in the first half of 2006, an on-year increase of 21 per cent. The company made a profit of VND18.5 billion (US$1.15 million) and paid VND33 billion (US$2 million to the State Budget in the six-month period.
