The Bim Son Joint Stock Company in northern Thanh Hoa province yesterday kicked off construction on a new production line with total investment of VND4,085 billion (US$255.3 million).

The production line is set to have an annual capacity of two million tons of cement a year or 5,500 tons of clinker a day.

Of the total investment capital, VND3,395 billion (US$212.19 million) comes from commercial banks with duration of 11 years.

The biggest bidding package of the project, supplying design, equipment and technical services worth over VND1,912 billion (US$119.5 million), will be carried out by Japan’s Heavy Industry Co. Ltd (IHI).

The project, scheduled to be implemented in 42 months and put into operation in late 2008, is expected to contribute to raising the cement industry’s total production capability and meet the requirements of the country’s cement industry development plan in the 2006-2010 period.
