Vietnam Needs US$21-37.8Mln for Training Nuclear Experts
Vietnam will require about US$21-37.8 million to train 650 nuclear power professionals for the first nuclear power plant from now till 2020, a source from the Electricity Group of Vietnam (EVN) said Tuesday.
These specialists are set to be trained under the long-term national program for the first 2,000-MW nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan province.
They will be consulted on feasibility studies, selecting technologies, preparing bidding documents, as well as helping strengthen the supervisory role of the plant developer, the Vietnam Nuclear Energy Institute said.
In early 2006, the government decided to build the plant, which is expected to start generating power in 2017 with an annual output of 10 billion in a bid to seek new power source for its economic growth.
Vietnam’s annual per capita electricity consumption is currently sitting at 400kWh, but with estimated demands for electricity growing annually at 10-15 per cent the estimated national electricity demand could reach 200 billion kWh (2,000kWh per capita) by 2020.
