Over US$19Bln to Be Spent for Traffic Infrastructure by 2010
Vietnam will invest around VND310.4 trillion (US$19.5 billion) to develop traffic infrastructure in the 2006-2010 period, according to the Ministry of Transport.
Of the figure, VND142.9 trillion (US$8.98 billion) will come from the state budget and the rest will be mobilized from investment of all economic sectors.
The capital is aimed to complete and continue carrying out road, railway and waterway projects for a modern traffic infrastructure network nationwide, and build an express way to serve the high number of vehicles and expanding international airports and sea ports.
It is also designed for the traffic development at urban areas, particularly Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Traffic accidents have become a thorny problem in Vietnam. In the first eleven months of this year, the number of accidents surged to 13,253 cases, mainly attributed to people’s lack of awareness in addition to low road system quality.
