Lilama to Build US$1.24Bln Power Plant in Central Vietnam
Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (Lilama) will construct Vung Ang thermal power plant No1, with combined capacity of 1,200 megawatts, at total cost of VND19.99 trillion (US$1.2 billion) in the central province of Ha Tinh.
Lilama and Electricity of Vietnam signed a contract Wednesday in Hanoi to buy electricity generated from the plant for a 30-year term.
The plant is expected to be completed in 2010 and produce 6.71 billion kWh of electricity a year. In related news, two hydropower plants with designed capacity of 9.4MW, with annual output of 18 million kWh, will be built in the northern province of Tuyen Quang.
The power sector is planning to fulfill set targets of 97 billion kWh by 2010 and provide electricity to 95 per cent of rural areas from the current 91.53 per cent, Hung noted, adding in 2008 EVN will complete its plan to privatize all its affiliates.
Chairman of the EVN’s Directors’ Board, Dao Van Hung in his report stated that Vietnam has 124 power plants with combined capacity of 34,659 megawatts, of which EVN is the dominant investor and developer holding 48 power plants with total capacity of 20,570 MW, the remaining 76 plants with total capacity of 15,360MW are held by non-EVN investors.
