Vinashin to Build Three Large Oil Tankers to PetroVietnam
State-run Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) will build three large oil tankers with load of 105,000 tons each for state oil monopoly PetroVietnam, local media quoted a contract signed in Hanoi yesterday as saying.
Vo Quang Nam, Deputy Director of PetroVietnam, said this US$200 million contract is part of a plan to expand PetroVietnam’s oil tanker fleet to 10 units with an individual load of 100,000 tons.
According to Vinashin, these tankers meet all international standards set for oil tankers.
Each tanker, measured 243.8-m long, 42-m wide and 21.4-m high, will be built by Vinashin’s Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Co.
The first tanker will be delivered to PetroVietnam in late 2008 and two remaining ones in 2009.
These ships will serve oil transportation to and from Dung Quat oil refinery, which will be operated by PetroVietnam.
Vinashin is the largest shipbuilder in Vietnam, which secured export contract value of US$4.5 billion last year. (VnMedia)
