Master Plan for HCM Trans-national Highway Gets PM Approval
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung recently issued a decision approving a master plan for the trans-national 3,167 kilometer long Ho Chi Minh Highway, state media reported.
The highway is designed to run through 30 provinces and cities from northern border Cao Bang province to southernmost Ca Mau province.
The highway has been being built in three phases until 2020. A two-lane motorway from Hoa Lac (northern Ha Tay province) to Tan Canh (Central Highlands province of Kon Tum) will be completed at the end of the first phase (2000-2007), while the remaining stretches of road will be connected in second phase (2007-2010).
In the final stage (2010-2020) the road will be open to traffic and some of its stretches will be built in line with express way standards.
The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Transport to join hands with local concerned agencies and authorities of these provinces to quickly complete the detailed planning for the road and submit it to the Government for consideration.
The ministry has been also asked to carry out site clearance to accelerate the implementation of the project. (Youth, Capital Security)
