State-run Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) will tap 7.3 billion cubic meters of gas in 2007, up 4.1 per cent on year, according to Nhan Dan Daily, the mouthpiece of the ruling party of Vietnam.

With this volume, the oil and gas monopoly will be able to sufficiently supply power plants, fertilizer factories and other industrial facilities in southeastern Vietnam.

PetroVietnam will also supply liquefied petroleum gas and condensate for gas trading firms in the country.

Currently, PetroVietnam’s gas can fuel 40 per cent of the country’s electricity generation and 30 per cent of fertilizer production. Its LPG meets 40 per cent of the Vietnamese market demand.

In a related development, PetroVietnam plans to produce 128.3 million barrels of crude oil in 2007, or 351,000 barrels a day (bbd), down 1.17 per cent against 2006, including 120.21 million barrels and 8 million barrels in overseas fields. (The People)
