Central Shipbuilder Makes 15 Seagoing Freighters, Container Carriers
The central Khanh Hoa province-based Nha Trang Shipbuilding Industry Company (Nha Trang SICO) will build 15 seagoing ships for Vietnamese shipping firms, state media reported.
The ships will be delivered to Vinashin Petroleum Investment and Transport Joint Stock Company (Shinpetrol), Vinashin Ocean Shipping Co. Ltd (Vinashinlines) and Southern Industrial Development Co. (SIDC), Vietnam News Agency said.
Nha Trang SICO will build 12 cargo freighters with capacity of 20,000-36,000 DWT, and three 250-TEU container carriers, with total value of VND7,000-billion (US$462 million).
The first ships will be handed over by 2009 and the order finished by 2011.
All four companies are members of Vinashin Business Group.
In a related development, Nha Trang SICO is building Cam Ranh Shipyard, also in Khanh Hoa province. The facility, at a cost of some VND2,500 billion (US$159 million), can build ships with load capacity over 50,000 DWT. (VNA)
