Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises signed business contracts worth a total US$2.5 billion at Vietnam-China Business Forum May 18 in Beijing, state media reported.
The largest contract is the project building An Phu Hung Urban Area in Ho Chi Minh City, with expected total capital of US$1 billion.
At the forum, co-organized by the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and China International Trade Promotion Committee, Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet highlighted the results of talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, to over 300 representatives of attending businesses.
China is a strategic partner to Vietnam, Triet said, confident of a more fruitful economic relationship between the two sides in the coming time, as Vietnam has been actively improving its environment for foreign investors.
The two countries’ leaders vowed to develop their traditional friendship and deepen economic, commercial cooperation, as well as the “Two Corridors, One Economic Belt” economic strategy, said the Vietnamese State President.
They also agreed to strengthen business operation in many areas to increase trade to $15 billion by 2010.
Chinese Deputy Trade Minister Yu Guangzhou said more Vietnamese enterprises are investing in China, emphasizing China’s pledges to encourage its businesses to raise their investment scales in Vietnam.
President Nguyen Minh Triet also met with Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin, and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao before wrapping up the visit.
At present, Chinese companies have poured $800 million into more than 400 projects in Vietnam, according to local newspapers. (Labor, VNA)
