The Ministry of Industry of Vietnam has recently approved a plan on supporting industries development from now to 2010 with focus on garment footwear, electronics, car manufacturing and assembly and engineering, Vietnam News Agency reported.

To carry out the plan, the ministry will speed up the construction of industrial parks, specializing in providing supporting materials for enterprises.

It will promote technology transfers and investment and seek more assistances from Japan, the European Union countries and foreign-owned enterprises in the fields of human resources training.

“If Vietnam wants to compete with China and Thailand in luring foreign investors, it needs to focus on developing supporting industries”, said Sachio Kageyama, director General of Canon Vietnam, pointing out “there are two ways to do this: either to attract foreign investment in supporting industries, or turn existing Vietnamese enterprises to big accessories providers”.
