WB Official Impressed by Vietnam's GDP Growth
New director of the World Bank in Vietnam Ajay Chhibber said in an interview with the Saigon Economic Times that he is very impressed by Vietnam’s economic growth over the past years.
Vietnam has gained high and stable GDP growth for years, he said.
This is a positive signal for foreign investors which will help boost their confidence in investing into Vietnam, he added.
The stability will be a decisive factor for Vietnam to become a medium income country and further.
Vietnam should try to maintain GDP growth of 7-8 per cent for years, he said. It is better to obtain the growth of 10-11 per cent for this year, but only 4-5 per cent for next year.
The country’s economic growth is backed by the successful poverty reduction, which will bring benefits for both urban and rural areas, he stressed.
Following prolonged growth in the previous years, Vietnam’s GDP growth maintains high in the first months of this year. The export turnover hit US$31.2 billion in the first eight months and will be possible to reach US$50 billion for the whole year.
Ajay Chhibber said Vietnam’s entry into WTO will be a motive for the country to reform the Government cabinet in order to boost economic growth and enhance national competitiveness. (Saigon Economic Times)
