Vinacomin Okayed US$486 Mln Bauxite Complex in Central Vietnam
Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group November 16 received green light to develop a bauxite exploitation complex costing VND7.78 trillion (US$486.25 million) in central highland Lam Dong province, Lao Dong newspaper said on November 19.
Vinacomin expected to start operating the complex by 2010 and employ at least 500 local workers. The state- run company could not be reached for time of construction start.
The complex, located in the province's Bao Lam district, will process four million tons of bauxite ore and 600,000 tons of aluminium each year, said the source.
Vietnam needs US$13.7 billion for the bauxite ores production and processing facilities and US$1.9 billion for infrastructure works, including building rails, roads, ports and other infrastructure, said
From now to 2015, the country will build seven aluminium factories and a bauxite processing complex to produce of 6.4 million-8.4 million tons of aluminium and 650,000 tons of bauxite ore a year. (Labor)
