Vietnam, China Negotiators Called to Solve Remaining Issues
Deputy Prime Minister-Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem Aug 25 called negotiators of China and Vietnam to try harder to settle remaining issues regarding border land demarcation in the next round of negotiations in Beijing, Vietnam News Agency said on August 26.
“Both sides should try harder to finish the remaining work within the upcoming Beijing round,” Khiem emphasized at a meeting with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister-Head of the Chinese government-level delegates on border and demarcation and territory negotiation Wu Dawei, who is in Hanoi for border and territory issues Aug 23-25, the agency said.
Khiem called for closer cooperation between the two countries to prepare the exchange of high-level visits from now till the end of the year, the agency said.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese foreign minister congratulated China’s success in hosting Beijing Olympic 2008 for carefully preparation, deep impression on international community about great culture of China. Success of Beijing Olympic 2008 is recognition of elevated status and prestige of China, Khiem noted.
Khiem also conveyed a “thank you” message to Chinese people and embassy in Hanoi for humanitarian aids for its flood victims.
The visit to China last May by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nong Duc Manh had created a new driving force for bilateral ties as with a joint decision to develop comprehensive strategic partnership and establish a hotline between top leaders of the two countries, he said.
Earlier, Wu Dawei and his Vietnamese counterpart, Vu Dung reached a consensus on principles to solve the outstanding issues in the field, and pledged to finish their jobs in the Beijing round of negotiations scheduled for September. (VNA, Government Website)
