Vietnam PM Dung Meets with Deputy U.S. Trade Representative
<div align="justify">Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung August 26 held a meeting with visiting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative John Veroneau in Hanoi, local media reported.</div>

<div align="justify">PM Dung was pleased with the two countries&rsquo efforts to implement the agreements reached during his visit to the U.S. in June, highlighting progress made in boosting cooperation in trade, education and training, and climate changes.</div>

<div align="justify">The PM proposed the U.S. side to consider the application of the general preferential tem (GPS) to Vietnam as well as to end the monitoring mechanism on garment imports from Vietnam.</div>

<div align="justify">He also recommended the two sides to boost negotiations of bilateral investment agreement.</div>
<div align="justify"> </div>
<div align="justify">The deputy US Trade Representative affirmed that he together with the U.S. relevant agencies will positively consider the PM&rsquos proposals.</div>

<div align="justify">He hoped that the two countries will outline new measures to further boost bilateral trade.</div>

<div align="justify">The U.S. visitor, however, said that the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has not planned to extend the monitoring mechanism on garment imports from Vietnam, once it expires.</div>
<div align="justify"> </div>
<div align="justify">The U.S. is now Vietnam&rsquos largest export market while the ASEAN country has been listed among 30 biggest exporters to the U.S. in 2007, according to a report by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).</div>

<div align="justify">Bilateral trade between the two countries is expected to surpass US$15 billion this year, as compared with US$12.44 billion in 2007. (Chinhphu.vn, VNA)</div>
