Vietnamese businesses and partners from China’s Guangdong province September 9 clinched 22 projects totaling nearly US$1.6 billion at the Vietnam-Guangdong economic and trade cooperation seminar held in Hanoi, Liberation Saigon reported.

Most of the inked projects focused on electricity, electronics, construction and food processing, said the newspaper.

Speaking at the seminar, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem encouraged businesses from the two sides to enhance comprehensive cooperation between Guangdong and Vietnam.

Secretary of Guangdong provincial Party Committee Wang Yang affirmed that Guangdong supported Vietnamese businesses to invest in processing, transport and telecom. The Chinese province would increase imports from Vietnam and help promote Vietnam’s tourism among local people, he said.

Two-way trade between Guangdong and Vietnam stood at US$2.45 billion in 2007, up 53 per cent on-year and making up nearly one sixth of the total bilateral trade between the two countries, according to Guangdong’s External Economic and Trade Cooperation Department.

Vietnam mainly exports coal, tanned leather, rubber, engine and electronic goods to Guangdong, and imports clothes, steel materials, china, footwear, motorbikes, air conditioners and electrical products from the province.

Guangdong province, the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry co-organized the seminar which drew representatives from over 300 Chinese enterprises. (Liberated Saigon, VNA)
