Vietnam, U.S. Ink Consumer Product Safety Deal

The Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Sept 11 clinched joint communiqué on consumer product safety cooperation in Hanoi Sept 11.
 
Under the agreement signed by inked by the STAMEQ’s General Director Ngo Quy Viet and the CPSC’s Acting Chairman, Nancy Nord, the two sides will exchange officials and experts, information and documents regarding consumer product safety and consumers’ welfare and awareness.
 
The CPSC is committed to provide training programs for Vietnamese officials involving in consumer goods safety.
 
The implementation of the joint communiqué is very necessary as the two-way trade between Vietnam and the U.S. has grown dramatically in recent years, said Nancy Nord.
 
Last year, Vietnam surpassed Chile, Colombia, the Philippines and Spain to be listed among 30 biggest exporters to the U.S., according to a report by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
 
Two-way trade between Vietnam and the U.S. is expected to surpass US$15 billion this year, as compared with US$12.444 billion in 2007. (Labor, Young People)
