Asked about the bilateral trade and economics ties in 2009, the U.S. diplomat said the global financial crisis will adversely impact the global stock market, trade and investment including Vietnam’s exports, however, Vietnam exports mainly food and foodstuff staples which will be less impacted from the turmoil.

U.S. consumers are tightening their belts and preferred to affordable goods including Vietnamese goods, he said.

If choosing right goods for exports, Vietnam will have a good cushion from the current crisis, the diplomat was cited as noting.

A full picture of the crisis has negative and positive sides. Recently a number of U.S. companies which arrived in Vietnam to look for investment opportunities have cancelled their plans, but others were optimistic about Vietnam’s growth prospects and want to invest into, he added. (VNA, Youth)
