Vietnam and Russia see huge cooperative potential in fields of economy, trade, education, culture, sport and tourism, Vice Chairman of the Russia State Duma Melnikov Ivan Ivanovich told Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung Dec 15 in Hanoi.

Melnikov is leading a Russian Duma delegation on a week-long visit to Vietnam, from December 14-20.

Speaking with the Deputy PM, Vice Chairman Ivanovich assured his trip is aimed to boost the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries in general and between the two parliaments in particular.

In the future, he said, the two sides should increase the exchange of delegations as well as the cooperation among localities.

The host for his part said that the two parliaments’ cooperation has significantly contributed to the fine development of the two nations’ relations and bilateral ties, particularly in trade and investment.

Early, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese national Assembly Uong Chu Luu held talks with the Russian Duma delegation, in which he suggested the two sides should formulate specific cooperation plans, including increasing their exchange of parliamentarian groups and parliamentary bodies, as well as sharing experiences in law-making and supervision.

He also asked the Russian side to help Vietnam in the training of National Assembly officials.

Separately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just announced Vietnam will grant entry visa exemptions for Russian citizens holding ordinary passports for visits of 15 days at the maximum as from January 1 2009.

The decision will be good opportunity for the country’s tourism sector to lure more Russian visitors towards the target of 70,000 Russian tourist arrivals this year and 100,000 next year.  (VietnamNet, Economic Times)
