Ambassador: Japan Wants to Resume ODA for Vietnam by April
Japanese Goodwill Ambassador to Vietnam Sugi Ryotaro on February 9 told the Vietnamese prime minister in Hanoi that Japan wants to resume ODA for Vietnam by April this year.
Ambassador Ryotaro regretted that the bribery cases had affected the bilateral relations. Both countries should work together for ODA resumption, he proposed.
“Whether Japan will resume ODA soon or late will depends on co-efforts by the two sides to solve the PCI case and completion of projects’ paperwork,” Ryotaro noted.
Meanwhile, PM Dung said Vietnam also regretted that Japan unilaterally halted ODA for Vietnam on suspects of one Vietnamese involved in the case.
Mr Dung pledged to use effectively ODA funded by Japan, the biggest bilateral donor for Vietnam so far.
