Minister Phuc, who is on a week-long visit to Japan, had a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone on bilateral economic ties in Tokyo.

Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone welcomed Minister Phuc’s visit as a special envoy of the Vietnamese prime minister to solve PCI case, the agency said.

The two sides have issued a joint communiqué which highlighted commitments by the two governments in fights against corruption in ODA area.

Japan has pledged a total of JPY83.2 billion (US$900 million) for Vietnam to implement major infrastructure development and environment projects in the cities of Hanoi and Haiphong, Phuc said, noting the two countries will sign ODA loans deals this March.

During his visit to Japan from February 22 to March 1, Minister Phuc will meet with Japanese parliamentarians, Deputy Minister of Finance Koichi Hirata and General Secretary of Japan’s Democrat Party.

Since 1992 Japan has funded roughly US$14 billion, or a third of funds by international donors for Vietnam. Japan has helped Vietnam develop infrastructure networks via ODA loans, Phuc added. (Labor, The People)
