U.S. Importers Oppose New Monitoring Mechanism on Vietnam Textiles
U.S. apparel retailers and importers are seeking to delete words in a bill that allows the Department of Commerce (DOC) to directly monitor all textile and garment imports into the U.S. market from Vietnam and China.
In a letter sent to the U.S. congressmen, the U.S. Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) expressed a deep concern over the new mechanism that contradicts the U.S. law and harms the economy.
The USA-ITA said the DOC had supervised apparel imports from Vietnam over past two years but found no evidence for dumping.
Last year, Vietnam shipped US$4.47 billion worth of apparel products to the U.S, up 22.5 per cent. (People’s Army)
