Enterprises of Vietnam and Belarus jointly exchanged and discussed cooperation and investment opportunities in the fields of trade and industry at a conference held Apr 7 in Hanoi.

The seminar, co-organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Belarus’s Embassy in Vietnam, was part of the 7th session of Vietnam-Belarus Intergovernmental Committee for Economy, Trade, Science and Technology Cooperation, slated from Apr 7-9.

The two-way trade between Vietnam and Belarus increased significantly 96 per cent on-year to US$124.6 million last year, deputy industry and trade minister Le Danh Vinh told the seminar.

Of the total, Vietnam exported US$34.9 million worth of goods to Belarus while spending US$90 million on imports from the eastern European nation.

The two countries have been promoting many industrial projects involved in auto assembly, mechanics and oil and gas exploitation while also keeping eye to other cooperative fields on science, technology, culture, tourism, finance and banking.

However, Vinh said, the two sides have not taken advantage of available potentials effectively and the achievements as a result are still modest.

Vinh added Vietnam is now in need of importing machines and equipment to serve its industries like power, coal, mining, and transport.

The country, meanwhile, can provide Belarus with industrial items like apparel, footwear, electronics, woodworks and agricultural products like seafood, canned products, rice, coffee, rubber and crude oil. (Vietnam & World Economy)
