State-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) has to date sold electricity directly to nearly 10 million households in over 4,000 rural communes nationwide.

Since last June, seven power companies under EVN have taken over low-voltage electricity grids from local organizations in 800 communes and sold power directly to over one million rural households.

Meanwhile, four power companies in Ho Chi Minh City, southern Dong Nai province, central Khanh Hoa province, and central Danang City have completed selling power directly to all of rural households in these localities prior to 2008.

EVN is speeding up a plan to sell electricity directly to end-users in the country’s rural areas by 2010 in a bid to minimize negation in power trading activities. (Labor)
