Vietinbank Ben Tre, a branch of the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank), was set up in 1988 when the provincial banking sector and economy were experiencing numerous difficulties. Nonetheless, during its history, Vietinbank Ben Tre has made significant contributions to the provincial social and economic development. The reporter of Vietnam Business Forum talked with Mr Le Van Thanh, Director of Vietinbank Ben Tre, about the successes of the branch.
Could you introduce major achievements that Vietinbank Ben Tre has obtained during its construction and development?
After more than 20 years of construction and development, together the with the strong growth of the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank), the Ben Tre Branch has made relentless efforts to reassert its position in Ben Tre province and contribute to the progress of the industrialisation and modernisation of agriculture and rural areas in the province. At present, Vietinbank Ben Tre is a major pivotal commercial bank in Ben Tre province and it has won many notable awards such as the second-class Labour Medal in 2002, Emulation Flag of the Government in 2005, Certificate of Merits from the Prime Minister in 2006 and certificates of merits from the Ben Tre Province People’s Committee in 2007 and 2008.
Vietinbank Ben Tre has a province-wide service network with one head office, seven transaction branches and seven ATMs. Vietinbank Ben Tre has also successfully applied modern banking technology and payment system and supplied a wide range of products and services. The customers of Vietinbank Ben Tre are being provided broader space and time.
What is the major driving force for Vietinbank Ben Tre to attain such important results?
The internal force is always a decisive factor to the success and failure of any organisation or individual. For Vietinbank Ben Tre, the inner force also consists of the powerfulness of the Vietinbank system and subjective efforts of the branch. But, the most important element is the concerted effort of all people in the branch for the development of Ben Tre province.
However, to promote its internal force, the branch needs the effect from the Party’s policies and guidance and State’s policies, legal systems and governance.
Another factor that directly affects the performances of the branch is the customers. Of course, they are “good quality” customers. “For the prosperity of the customers” is always our operating objective and is our driving force for our increasing perfection.
What solutions is Vietinbank Ben Tre adopting to continue development and heightening its position and competitiveness?
To obtain its sustainable development and heighten its position and competitiveness, the branch has been focusing on the following basic solutions.
- Continue perfecting and enhancing the competitiveness of customer service quality through two major internal sources, namely personnel and material resources - the decisive factors for the branch operation.
- Promote the development of the human resources by planning, arranging, training, attracting and employing talented staffs.
- Develop working capital and renovate mobilised capital sources. This is a prerequisite condition for the branch to raise funds for local economic development.
- Boost credit growth to ensure quality, safety and effectiveness, enhance planning capacity and portfolio management, classify debts to clarify debt quality, detect and issue early warning to effectively prevent and tackle new bad debts, resolutely take back outstanding debts.
- Improve traditional business operations, in which the core is credit operation; quickly apply IT to banking operation.
- Urgently implement and continue the ISO 9001-2008 quality management system, apply new Vietinbank working regulations and corporate culture manual to improve the customer service quality to enhance competitiveness of Vietinbank in general and Ben Tre in particular.
- Improve quality and effectiveness of examination, internal control, internal auditing, and risk management.
- Continue strengthening and expanding the network, accelerating communication and popularising trademark, products and services of Vietinbank; associating its business operations with society and community-oriented activities.
