Sun Microsystems Launches JEDI Programme in Vietnam

Sun Microsystems, Inc (NASDAQ: JAVA) just launched the Java Education and Development Initiative (JEDI) programme in Vietnam. Sun Microsystems and the ICT Department, Ministry of Education and Training are partnering in this collaborative project to groom the students in Vietnam into world-class developers, equipped with skill-sets on cutting-edge open-source technologies such as Java technology and Open Solaris.
 
The primary objective of the JEDI program is to provide high-quality, industry-endorsed IT and Computer Science course materials for free to universities and colleges. First introduced in the Philippines in 2005, and now established in other countries including Indonesia and Brazil, the JEDI program has benefited over 190,000 students worldwide, who can also access resources as part of the Sun Developer Network, with 4.4 million members globally. 
 
 “With a vision to develop a long-term collaborative relationship in the field of education and research and steer Vietnam to become an ICT hub in the region, we are delighted to bring the JEDI program to Vietnam.” said Naveen Asrani, Senior Manager, Global Developer Outreach and Programs.
 
 “Over the past years, Sun Microsystems and the Ministry of Education and Training have been successfully implementing projects on IT application in teaching and learning.” said Dr. Quach Tuan Ngoc, Director General, ICT Department, Ministry of Education and Training. 
 
To kick off the JEDI initiative in Vietnam, Sun is organizing the Train The Teachers (T3) program held at Hanoi University of Technology and HCMC University of Technology - Vietnam National University HCMC from 13 to 17 April 2009.
