Vietnam Firms Ensure Sufficient Fertilizer for 2009 Summer-Autumn Crop
Domestic fertilizer producers will supply sufficient urea for 2009 summer-autumn rice crop thanks to abundant domestic stockpile and imports, the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper reported, citing Nguyen Xuan Thang, CEO of the PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (DPM).
Thang forecast that Vietnam will need around 620,000 tons of fertilizers this crop.
The Phu My Urea Company can supply 200,000 tons while the Ha Bac Urea Company may supply 50,000 tons.
Vietnam imported 470,000 tons of urea fertilizer in the first four months of 2009, and it expects to import around 750,000 tons this year.
On May 5, Phu My urea was sold at VND6,560/kilogram; China’s urea, VND6,400/kilogram while price of Philippines DAP and Chinese DAP VND14,200 and VND8,000/kilogram, respectively. (Youth)
