Neighboring China remained the biggest importer of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable with total value of $10.6 million in the first quarter of 2009, up 27.8% on year, the Vietnam General Customs Department said.
Main fruits to China included blue-dragon fruit, longan, mango, durian and dried vegetables.
Russia ranked second with total import value of more than $9 million, up 1.3% against the first quarter of 2008. The country mostly imported pineapple, cucumber, coconut flesh, and potatoes.
Export of fruit and vegetable to Japan, the third biggest importer, decreased 1.2% in Jan-Mar, to only $6.9 million, the department said, adding that key imports were batata, flower, and dried vegetables.
Indonesia, Taiwan and Thailand imported $5.27 million; $3.69 million and $2.91 million of vegetable and fruits from Vietnam, respectively while their exports decreased 43.1%; 37.5% and 18.6% on year.
The department said the country saw highest increase in exports volumes to Australia and Cambodia with 114% and 109.7%, who imported $1.08 million and $1.22 million worth of fruit and vegetable from Vietnam between January and March.
Vietnam exported $95.3 million worth of fruit and vegetable in the first quarter, up 7.8% on year, the department said.
Vietnam’s export markets has been narrowed as ten countries did not import any products from Vietnam during the time, including Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary, India, Czech, UAE, Brazil, Belgium, Poland and Arab Saudi. (Rauhoaquavn.vn)
