Vietnam Paper Industry Recovering
Vietnam’s paper production industry is recovering as it posted growth of 11% in the first quarter of 2009 against the fourth quarter of 2008, the Vietnam Trade Information Center said.
Paper production in April was slightly higher than March, and total stockpiled volume has also decreased.
In April, the country consumed 80,000 tons of paper, up 14% from previous month. Total stockpiled volume also decreased from 75,000 tons in March to only 43,000 tons in April.
The association said the recovery is resulted from the fact that local producers have improved production lines, applied advanced technologies, reduced energy and labor lost while boosting consumption and considering ongoing projects.
Favorable conditions like tax extension and import tax cut offered by the Government have also contributed to the recovery.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that Vietnam produced 251,300 tons of paper in the first four months of 2009, down 25.8% compared to the same period of last year.
The industry is now carrying out 17 pulp and paper projects. (Vinanet.vn)
