The state-run Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) will start commercial operation of seven more power plants with a combined capacity of 1,100 MW within this year, according to the EVN’s sources.

The under-trial plants include O Mon 1, Quang Ninh 1, and Haiphong 1 thermal power plants; and Pleikrong, Song Ba Ha, and Buon Kuop hydropower plants.

Within this month, EVN will put in use 110-MW turbine 1 of Song Ba Ha plant, to contribute around 413 million kWh of power annually to the national electricity grid.

The country's sole electricity distributor is also accelerating construction and installation of turbine 2 of Buon Kuop plant in a bid to operate the plant at full capacity of 280 MW in August to generate 1.4 billion kWh of power.

Between January and May, the group put in use 189 power grid works including five transmission power lines with capacity of 500 kV each and 29 other lines with capacity of 200 kV each to pave the way for operating power plants this year. (Labor)
