Vietnam Telecom JV to Invest VND6T in Base Transceiver Stations
The consortium of EVN Telecom and Hanoi Telecom will spend VND6 trillion (US$354.2 million) to build 5,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) to provide third-generation (3G) services over the next three years, EVN has said.
The two companies have established a steering board to develop the 3G network at 900-2200 MHZ frequency.
They plan to launch 3G services in the first quarter of next year or sooner.
Currently, EVN Telecom has 3,000 BTS while Hanoi Telecom about 1,200.
The consortium is among four telecom companies qualified to provide 3G services in Vietnam, besides the military-run Viettel, MobiFone and VinaPhone. They pledged to invest US$2 billion in the next three years to deploy the technology. (Young People, Capital’s Security)
