Vinacomin Boosts Investment in Coal-fired Power Projects
The state-owned Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) is intensifying its investment in coal-fired power projects.
Vinacomin has operated stably two coal-fired power plants of 100-MW Na Duong and 100-MW Cao Ngan, which have generated 698 million kWh of electricity in the first five months of this year.
The group is coordinating with contractors to ensure operation of 220-MW Son Dong and 300-MW Cam Pha coal-fired power plants in the third quarter or fourth quarter this year.
It is speeding up construction pace of some other power projects to test equipment of 300-MW Cam Pha 2 power plant in between June and July.
Vinacomin is negotiating to build 440-MW Mao Khe power plant while making plans to build 150-MW Dong Nai 5 and 100-MW Phu Quoc power plants.
It plans to have seven or eight new coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 2,900 MW to be operated by 2010. Coal-fired power is expected to rise by 20 per cent during the same period. (Vietnam & World Economy)
