PetroVietnam to Build US$3B Coal-fired Power Center in Central Province
The state-owned oil monopoly PetroVietnam group will invest US$3 billion to build a 2,400-MW coal-fired power center in central Quang Tri province.
The Quang Trach center will occupy 250 hectares in Vinh Son hamlet, Quang Dong commune of Quang Trach district.
The center will include two power plants namely 1,200-MW Quang Trach 1 and 1,200-MW Quang Trach 2.
Quang Trach 1 plant is slated for operation before 2015 and Quang Trach 2 before 2016.
Information about the time for the start of the project and its electricity output has not yet been made available.
PetroVietnam is investing in five coal-fired power projects including 1,200-MW Thai Binh 2, 1,200-MW Vung Ang 1, 1,200-MW Long Phu 1, 2,400-MW Song Hau and 2,400-MW Quang Trach.
In the first quarter, the group produced 1.67 billion kWh of electricity from Nhon Trach 1, Ca Mau 1 and Ca Mau 2 power plants, meeting 73 per cent of its target for the period.
This year, PetroVietnam targeted to produce 9.82 billion kWh of power. (Investment)
