The Lord Mayor of London to Visit Vietnam on July 2 - 6
The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Ian Luder will visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from July 2-6 to support UK financial institutions present in Vietnam and to promote the development of Vietnam’s capital markets, announced the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on June 30.
He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation from key British financial services institutions. The broader aim is to forge a closer relationship and co-operation with Vietnam's growing financial services sector.
The City of London is at the heart of the world’s financial markets. It offers a unique concentration of international expertise and capital, with a supportive legal and regulatory system, an advanced communications and information technology infrastructure and an unrivalled concentration of professional services.
In Hanoi, the Lord Mayor will meet Vietnam's Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, the Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee and the CEO of the Hanoi Stock Exchange. He will also be participating in a seminar on Vietnam's WTO legal compliance, organised by UKTI and the Law Society.
In Ho Chi Minh, where he arrives on 6 July, the Lord Mayor looks forward to calling on People's Committee Chairman HE Le Hoang Quan and Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange C.E.O. Dr Tran Dac Sinh. The Lord Mayor will share his experience on the building of a financial services centre at a roundtable forum with UK consultant and financial firms and the HCMC Steering Committee on developing HCMC to become a regional and international financial centre. He will also meet a number of UK and local companies in the financial services sector, as well as speak to local university students on trade and finance subjects.
The Lord Mayor acts as the ambassador for UK-based financial services and spends around 100 days of his year visiting more than 20 countries.
The last Lord Mayor to visit Vietnam was Alderman John Stuttard in May 2007. This visit helped highlight the growing role of UK financial institutions in Vietnam and to identify scope for closer collaboration and partnerships. The visit also introduced the UK's expertise in regulatory and financial services training and education, and introduced London as a first choice location for stock listing.
