Jean-Daniel Gerber, Swiss Secretary of State and State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, has proposed that Vietnam and Switzerland launch bilateral negotiations for a free trade agreement.

Secretary of State Gerber met with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on the afternoon of July 6.

PM Dung pointed out the great potential between the two countries for bilateral economic trade, foreign investment and human resource training.

In early 2009, Switzerland pledged to put Vietnam on its priority list of recipients for Swiss ODA and to increase grants for Vietnam by 20 per cent this year to help the Southeast Asian country's economic integration.

By the end of 2008, Switzerland invested in 61 projects with registered capital of $1.38 billion in the areas of construction, agricultural, tourism and other services. (chinhphu.vn)
