Vietnam PM Approves Zoning of Border Area with Cambodia by 2030
The Vietnamese prime minister has just ratified the zoning scheme of areas bordering with Cambodia by 2030, the Communist Party of Vietnam said.
The zoned area will become a marine economic center, marking a special impact to the central, central highlands, and south of Vietnam as well as nations in the Gulf of Thailand, the scheme indicates.
On schedule, the Vietnam-Cambodia border region will be divided into two main sub-areas, including the southwestern border area and central highlands area, with Buon Me Thuat, Pleiku, Long Xuyen cities and Trang Bang town to be developed as central urban areas.
The Vietnam-Cambodia border region is considered to play an important role in the country’s agriculture and forest development as well as concentrate numerous hydro power and irrigation works. It is also a significant trade exchange center between Vietnam and other nations in the sub-Mekong river region and the East Sea region.
Vietnam has ten provinces bordering with Cambodia, including Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang and Kien Giang. The region has an area of 73,369 kilometers and a population of 12.65 million. The figure is forecast to increase to 16.51 million by 2020, including approx 11 million people at the working age.
