WB to Help Vietnam Build Power Supply System in Northern City
The World Bank (WB) will help Vietnam build a power system costing VND200 billion (US$11.76 million) to supply electricity for the Cat Ba island district of the northern port city of Haiphong.
The system includes two 36-kilometer power lines running from Cho Roc commune, Yen Hung district of northern Quang Ninh province to Cat Ba island, and two 110-kV transformer stations with a capacity of 50kVA each – one in Cho Roc and one in Tran Chau commune, Cat Hai district, Haiphong city.
The Haiphong Power Company began construction of the system on June 30.
Once fully operational in February 2010, the system will provide 35kV of power for 6,800 consumers on the island.
The island currently receives electricity from a 35-kV line from Yen Hung district.
