Vinalines Starts Work on 2nd Phase of VND1.4T Seaport
Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) began construction on the second phase of a seaport with a total investment of VND1.413 trillion (US$83.117 million) in Can Tho city in the Mekong Delta on July 11.
The second phase of Cai Cui seaport, which costs VND1.2 trillion, aims to build three wharves totaling 500 meters in length and with a modern loading and unloading system, which is expected to handle 20,000-DWT vessels.
Construction on the seaport’s second phase is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
Construction on the port’s first phase, which has a total investment capital of VND213 billion, was finished three years ago.
On the same day, Vinalines broke ground on a VND600-billion logistics area at the Cai Cui seaport.
The area will provide marine services for seaports in the Mekong Delta region and will be used to distribute goods as well as offer logistics services for businesses.
Work on the logistics area is slated for completion in 2015. (Investment)
