Vietnam Aims to Operate 29 More Power Plants by 2012

Vietnam is speeding up construction of 29 power projects in an effort to put all of them into operation by 2012, according to Vietnam’s 2006 to 2015 national electricity development plan that has a vision for further development through 2025, or plan VI.
 
The country will start building 19 other projects from now through 2011.
 
This year, the nation plans to operate 44 new power plants with a combined capacity of 3,704 MW.
 
Last year, Vietnam put into service only 26 hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 198 MW instead of 39 plants with a combined capacity of 416 MW as initially planned. (Urban Economy)
