Deputy PM Asks for Plan of Long Thanh Int’l Airport

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has just assigned Southern airports Corporation to establish a general plan for the construction of Long Thanh international airport.
 
The corporation will replace a group of investors that had been appointed to carry out the project previously.
 
The airport is planned to cover 5,000 hectares stretching communes of Long Phuoc, Bau Can, Long An, Binh Son, Suoi Trau and Cam Duong, Long Thanh districts in the southern province of Dong Nai.
 
It is some 40 kilometers away from the center of Ho Chi Minh City and 43 kilometers from Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
 
Long Thanh airport is designed to serve roughly 10 million passengers annually. It will receive A380-800 airplanes and other similar types of aircrafts.
 
Vietnam is now home to 20 airports, including five international airports which provide services for an estimated 30 million passengers a year, said the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV).
 
The country needs some VND221.5 trillion to develop a network of 26 airports through 2020. (Labour)
