Cashew Export Brings in US$607M to Vietnam in Jan-Sept

Vietnam gained US$607 million from exporting 131,000 tons of cashew nuts in Jan-Sept, up 6% in volume but down 13.1% in value from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistical Office said.
 
Between January and September, prices of cashew averaged at US$4,634 per ton, down US$1,018 per ton from previous year. Last year, Vietnam exported 167,000 tons and earned US$920 million with the average prices of US$5,508 per ton.
 
In Sept, Vietnam exported 17,000 tons valued at US$83 million, down 10.5% in volume and 9.9% in value compared to a month earlier. The country targeted to export 165,000 tons at the value of US$800 million this year.
 
Vietnam was the biggest cashew nut producer and exporter last year with main markets including the U.S., China, the Netherlands, Russia, the Middle East and Thailand.
 
More than 450 households in Vietnam are cultivating cashew on more than 421,000 hectares. They supply cashew nuts for 225 cashew nut processing enterprises which have a combined capacity of 700,000 tons a year. (GSO, Saigon Marketing).
