RoK President to Visit Vietnam Next Week
President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and his wife will pay a three-day official visit to Vietnam next week, the Communist Party of Vietnam said on its website Oct 14, citing a statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The RoK leader will make his trip, slated from Oct 20-22, at the invitation of President Nguyen Minh Triet, the statement noted.
Lee is expected to hold high-ranking talks with President Triet Oct 21, focusing on the cooperation in energy and economy, a source from the Korean government said.
The two sides will discuss the cooperation in specific fields such as broadcasting and communications, development of natural resources, building of nuclear power plant, Korea’s investments in large-scale infrastructure projects in Vietnam, protection of rights for overseas Vietnamese in the RoK and South Korean in Vietnam.
RoK President will also visit Cambodia between Oct 22-23 and arrive in Thailand Oct 24 to join the 15th ASEAN Summit and related summits.
Lee Administration is aiming to lobby the “New Asia” initiative of which Korea will play a central role in representing the interest of Asian nations in the international arena. (CPV)
