PM Okays Preliminary Plan for 5M Hectare Forestation Project
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved a preliminary plan for the five million hectare forestation project in the 2009-2010 period.
The PM said the government will allocate VND2.3 trillion (US$128.8 million) for the project which costs VND5.5 trillion. It will fund VND1 trillion in 2009 and VND1.3 trillion in 2010.
He required the project to protect 1.5 million hectares of forest while re-planting 668,000 hectares and planting additional 436,000 hectares.
The PM also decided to establish Steering Board for Forest Census in the 2010-2015 period. (Vietnam Agriculture)
