U.K., Japan Firms to Build Infrastructure for $4.9B Power Center in Vietnam

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has approved International Power PLC of the U.K., Sojitz of Japan and Thai Binh Duong Group of Vietnam to build infrastructure for Son My power center costing $4.9 billion in Vietnam’s central province of Binh Thuan.
 
The center will consist of three coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 3,600 MW namely Son My 1, Son My 2 and Son My 3.
 
The facilities will be built under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) form or the Building-Operation and Transfer (BOT) form at Son My 1 industrial park, Son My commune, Ham Tan district.
 
Turbine 1 of the center is expected to start operation in 2015.
 
The center is capable of contributing 23.4 billion kWh of power to the national electricity grid once fully operational in 2018. (thesaigontimes.vn)
